Understanding Our Currency

Children exploring pretend money

Count, spend, and count again.

Money helps us exchange things. We use pretend tokens to practise. Count ten tokens: each token has a value of one.

A pencil costs four tokens. Give the shopkeeper four. Count the six tokens left. You can keep them for another day.

  1. 1Count 10 pretend tokens.
  2. 2Spend 4 on a pencil.
  3. 3Count the 6 tokens left.
